FADE IN

INT. MESSY ROOM -- DAWN LIGHT

Camera enters the room. All is seem are clothes on the floor, CDs all over the place, plates and glasses on the TV set. In one corner there is a bed and a stereo system. Lying on the bed there is a sloppy, naked, 25-YEAR-OLD MAN. He's got a headphone connected to the stereo, which plays repeatedly one song. The camera zooms to a close-up of the man. While he gazes fixedly at the ceiling, this part of the lyrics is heard (OS):

"I'm hanging on here until I'm gone
I'm right where I belong, just hanging on."

The title DIVIDED and the MAIN TITLES read over. The camera zooms in his left eye.

EXT. PARKING LOT -- NOON

When it zooms out, he is standing up, dressed casually with a t-shirt and jeans. He is talking to a 24-YEAR-OLD WOMAN, who is elegantly dressed with a green dress. She is nervous.

JULY (with tears in her eyes)
What do you mean by 'I don't like you that way?'

PETER (a little nervous)
July, try to understand. I was never really in love with you. You attracted, but only physically.

JULY (yelling)
Then why did you get involved? Why didn't you leave me alone? Damn you, Peter, I've lost my innocence with you, and that's the way you treat me after?

PETER (nervous)
As if I were responsible for all of this alone! YOU seduced me, I just responded. Besides, I too lost MY innocence with you. I'm sorry, July, but I'm actually in love with someone else.

JULY (crying and walking away)
That's just fine, peter. But it's not over. You'll see.

And she walks away. He sighs, and goes to his car. The camera zooms in his left eye again.

INT. MESSY ROOM -- DAWN LIGHT

The camera zooms out, showing him in his bed. Another part of the lyrics is heard (OS):

"Even though I watched you come and go,
How was I to know you'd steal the show?"

The camera zooms in his right eye.

EXT. IN FRONT OF A COMMERCIAL BUILDING -- DUSK LIGHT

The camera zooms out, and he is nicely dressed with casual clothes, striding hurriedly after a 25-YEAR-OLD WOMAN leaving the building. She's wearing jeans and t-shirt. He calls her.

PETER (recovering his breath)
Lynn, I was looking for you. I wanted so much to talk to you. It's about--

LYNN (angry)
I don't want to hear, Peter. As a matter of fact, I don't even want to see you anymore.

PETER (confused)
But... what have I done to you? What happened?

LYNN (angry)
You have done a terrible thing and you know you did. My goodness, how cold are you? I don't want to hear from you. Goodbye.

And she walks out on him. He sits on the sidewalk and watches her leaving. The camera zooms in his right eye again.

INT. MESSY ROOM -- DAWN LIGHT

The camera zooms out and shows him in his bed. This part of the song lyrics is heard (OS):

"I'll wait to hear your final call
And bet it all"

The camera shows the ceiling from his point of view. It blacks out. This part of the lyrics is heard (OS):

"I'm hanging on here until I'm gone
I'm right where I belong, just hanging on."

A gunshot is heard. The credits read over.
